National makes suggestions for next federal budget
The House of Commons Finance Committee invited individuals and organizations in Canada to make recommendations for the next federal budget (2014-2015). The National ME/FM Action Network responded to the invitation, making two suggestions. One is for a new institute at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to encourage research into ME/CFS and FM in Canada. The other is for an, inter-departmental task-force to look at issues accessibility/ human rights issues facing the ME/FM community in Canada.

Note that Parliament is being prorogued. When this happens, the Finance Committee ceases operation. When Parliament resumes, a new Finance committee will be put in place. We fully expect that the new committee will consider the submissions that were made to the old Finance Committee. We are also requesting the opportunity to appear in person before that committee this fall. You can read our request here
There was a cabinet shuffle this summer and we have new Ministers:
-
Minister of Health - Rona Ambrose
-
Minister of Employment and Social Development – Jason Kenney
-
Minister of Justice – Peter MacKay
Note that the former Ministry for Human Resources and Skills Development is now going to be referred to as the Ministry for Employment and Social Development.
The Network has now written to the three new Ministers.
