NETWORK ASKS FOR SUSPENSION OF ENDORSEMENT, NEW FIBRO GUIDELINES

National ME/FM Network asks the Canadian Rheumatology Association and the Canadian Pain Society to Suspend their Endorsement of the 2012 Guidelines
This summer, both the Canadian Rheumatology Association and the Canadian Pain Society endorsed new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia. Analysis by the National ME/FM Action Network shows that these guidelines will have unintended unfavourable consequences. The guidelines will lead to confusion, further deterioration in service for FM patients, and an increase in stigma. We have therefore written to the two organizations asking them to suspend their endorsement of the document and to postpone implementation so that the implications can be discussed and resolved.

The 2012 guidelines are available in English and French on both organizations' websites.
See for example http://www.canadianpainsociety.ca/en/publications.html.
A discussion of the guidelines is included in Quest 92, Oct 2012.
