Fibro refers to fibrous tissue – ligaments and tendons, myo refers to muscle, and algia refers to pain. Fibromyalgia involves widespread pain of the muscles, ligaments, and tendons. A syndrome is a set of signs/symptoms that are seen together.
FM is a chronic disorder which features widespread musculoskeletal pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons.
PREVALENCE OF FM IN CANADA
The 2005 Community Health Survey conducted by Statistics Canada indicated that there were 389,782 people diagnosed with FM.
