Dear Friends

NEW MANUAL FOR PATIENTS: "LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE THROUGH"

I would like to tell you about a new document that will be very helpful to both patients and physicians.

Dr. Eleanor Stein of Calgary, Alberta is a medical advisor to the National ME/FM Action Network. She has been treating patients with ME/CFS, FM, and MCS for a number of years. As part of her program, she has offered a series of workshops for patients. She has now compiled her workshop material into a manual entitled “Let Your Light Shine Through”. The manual provides a wealth of ideas and information on very important issues that patients face.

Manual Contents

260 pages
Introduction Session 1 – Laying the Foundation
Session 2 – Sleep Management
Session 3 – Activity, Pacing, and the Autonomic Nervous System
Session 4 – Coping With Chronic Illness
Session 5 – Management of Diet and Gastrointestinal Symptoms
Session 6 – Lowering the Toxic Load
Session 7 – Pain Management
Session 8 – Depression and Anxiety
Session 9 – Common Treatments
Conclusion – Putting It All Together

I am finding the manual to be a very helpful reference tool because of the thoughtful, well-documented discussion around each of the topics.

You can order the manual online: www.eleanorsteinmd, by telephone: (403) 287-9941 or by fax: (403) 287-9958. Prices range from $20 for a downloadable manual to $40 plus shipping for a 3-ring binder, colour version.

While you are at Dr. Stein's website, you may wish to take a look at her other publications, including the 2006 document (available for free) “Assessment and Treatment of Patients with ME/CFS, Clinical Guidelines for Psychiatrists”. This document is aimed specifically at health professionals. It discusses the interrelationship of ME/CFS with depression and anxiety, making it very clear that ME/CFS is not a psychiatric condition but that it can co-exist with depression or anxiety.
